So I just wanted to add this photo to give you a frame of reference. When I first bought my house there was a huge tree on the other side of the lawn (the side that is covered in plastic now - scroll down). The lawn was in bad shape and there was a dog run that ran along the fence. I removed the dog run and dug up the sod to make a long garden bed which you can see in the next picture. I also became a grass growing queen.

This is almost the same view as the 1st picture but clearly after I had landscaped and restored the lawn.

So this is where the tree used to be. As you can see I planted some perennials and minnesota natives here last summer. Most of these plants will be divided and spread out over the entire south side of the yard once I've finished killing the grass that is under the plastic.

A new grass growing adventure. Darn birds come down and eat the grass seed so I made a cage to protect the seed. The new grass is coming in nicely. There used to be a garden bed here.

On the side of the mud room I'm growing peppers. Jalapeno, Banana, Orange, Red and Green Bell.

Climbing Rose bush. This was planted by a previous owner and it's one of the few things that I have left. They are beautiful.

I can't remember the name of this flower but I planted it last year and it never bloomed. I was SO excited when it bloomed this year as it is a VERY unique flower.

I planted this Rose bush last year and didn't get one Rose, it's really blooming this year.

It was great having my long lost friend Jay visit for the weekend. He even volunteered to help me in the garden a bit saying (in a thick Greek accent), "Seventeen years ago you came to Greece and worked for, now I work for you - ha ha".

I was so fortunate to get the opportunity to go to work with my brother as a guest on the Ironwood. Jason is an instructor for Job Corps and the Inland Boatman's Union at the Tongue Point Job Corps Center in Astoria, OR where he trains students to be seamen (and women). It was awesome to get to see what he does for a living and made me feel really proud of him.

That's right another blog about persimmons and pie. This was inspired by Julia Corbetts Sweet and Raw Pie Mandalas Cook Book available at www.divianaalchemy.com

Raw superfood pie with a mandala inspired garnish.

This pie is exceptionally good for you with Lucuma, Maca Root, Goji Berry, Hemp Seed, Mesquite Pod Meal, and two varieties of medicinal mushroom extracts and no dairy, processed sugars, gluten, etc. The filling is mostly almond milk, raw cashews and persimmons. I've garnished it with persimmon slices, hemp seed, calendula, chamomile, hibiscus and goji berries. I know it sounds crazy but it was very, very similar in flavor to a pumpkin cheesecake.

I took it to share at a dinner party hosted by my neighbors and new friends Doug and Jenny (they live kitty corner to Nia and Corey Stewart).

So yeah, still talking about persimmons.

So I came home today to find a CASE of persimmons in my back mud room. SCREECH!!!! Those of you who have had the "pleasure" of talking to me over the last two weeks have no doubt had to listen to me carrying on about persimmons and all of things I am doing or plan to do with them.
One of my lovely neighbors works for an organic produce company and often brings home "spoiled" fruits and vegetables. They aren't really spoiled, they've just become to ripe to sell. Knowing about my obsession he brought a case over for me.
I've heard that there are TWO kind of fruit eaters; those who like to eat their fruit standing up straight and those who like to eat their fruit bent over. The folks who like to eat it upright enjoy firmer and less ripened fruit whereas those who enjoy it bent over like it to be gushing, gooey and messy ripe. That's the way I like it.

I was planning on doing a little work on my garage tonight but instead I've spent the last two hours slicing persimmons for the dehydrator, blanching and peeling persimmons for the freezer and gutting and pulping persimmons for a few recipes I intend to try this weekend. That's right people, this is NOT the last blog you'll be seeing from me on the subject of persimmons.

I made this pie and I think it's pretty darn purdy. It's persimmon pie, almost like a pumpkin pie but with persimmon pulp instead of pumpkin. I know we're not suppose to talk about our "feelings" in cyberspace but I'm feeling sad that I have no one to share it with.

I'm also feeling sad that I don't have any whipped cream.

I love Fred Meyer more than any other store on the planet. I have never seen such an abundance of EVERYTHING than at this Fred Meyers. Brussel Sprouts and Carrots, Tofu Paté, Wine, Beer, Fish, Cheeses, Shoes, Clothing, Tires, Furniture, Blenders, School Supplies, Yarn. It's simply amazing.

The old Round Table used to be here, but they tore it down and built a gas station. RTP is now located in a strip mall just a few yards away. Same fantastic pies, but all the old charm of the old location is gone.
